Top 10 Books for Babies and Toddlers

Top 10 Books for Babies and Toddlers

Did you know that literacy begins at birth?  I know it seems crazy but when reading to your infant, your child hears you using many different emotions and expressive sounds, which fosters social and emotional development. Reading also invites your baby to look, point, touch, and answer questions — all of which promote social development and thinking skills. And your baby improves language skills by imitating sounds, recognizing pictures, and learning words.

But I feel the most important benefit to reading out loud to your infant is that it makes a connection between you and your baby.  Your baby benefits because he or she loves hearing your voice and loves being close to you.  I believe this is a win win for both mother and child.

Did or do you read to your baby?  If so, what are their favorite books?  My husband and I read to both our boys starting at birth.  It was our favorite time of day with them both.   It was part of their bedtime routine every night.   Bath, pajamas and book.  In fact, we still love to read with them.   Our youngest is now reading to us at night and our oldest loves to spend time in our room reading with us after our youngest goes to bed.   Don’t know what books to buy to start building your babies library?  Here is a list of the Top 10 Books for babies 0-3 years old according to   If you know of another great book to add to the library, please leave in the comment area.

footie pajamas

Did you know that the human foot is one of the most vulnerable parts of the body when it comes to cold?  Now picture a infant or toddler who does not sleep with blankets…COLD FEET!!  Footie pajamas are such a great idea for infant and toddlers when it comes to keeping them warm through the night.  I know as an adult during the winter, my feet are the last part of my body that warm up.  A lot of times I wear socks to bed and I am sure a lot of you do too.  Now as a mom, I have put socks on my kids when they were young and before the night is over the socks are off and tossed somewhere in the crib.  If you put footie pajamas on your little one…no socks tossed in the crib!

Nowadays, companies are manufacturing better and more comfortable footie pajamas.  No longer are your only options fleece ITCHY footie pajamas.  My Baby Pajamas offers a great selection of footie pajamas.   We have organic footie pajamas, which are made from 100% organic (chemical free) cotton.   However, when you buy a pajama that is not flame resistant, the pajamas need to fit very snug.  Our best selling footie pajamas are the Kicky Pants Bamboo footie pajamas.   If you have not tried the bamboo pajamas yet, all I can say is you are missing out 🙂

Bamboo is an eco-friendly, sustainable crop that grows wild without the aid of fertilizers or pesticides.  Bamboo fabric is naturally antibacterial, antifungal and antistatic.  Bamboo absorbs water 3-4 times better than cotton, keeping skin comfortable, rather than sticky.  And, bamboo stays 2-3 degrees cooler in the hot weather and 2-3 degrees warmer in the cold weather.   Who doesn’t want there infant or toddler 2-3 degrees warmer in the winter when they have no blanket!

Another advantage to the footie pajama besides warmth is style.   Designers have made the cutest styles and designs in footie pajamas.   The footie pajama is a great option for day clothes during the winter for your infant.   If footie pajamas were this cute when my boys were little, they would live in footie pajamas 🙂

Pajamas on SALE

Footie pajamas have been a popular Christmas gift for decades. There’s just something about them that harkens to childhood. They evoke memories of carefree days and conjure up feelings of comfort and security. It’s no wonder that they top the list of popular holiday gifts, even for grown-ups!

PJ’s themselves date back to at least the 17th century. Numerous cultures have claimed responsibility for their “invention.” In fact, night clothes have been around for thousands of years in some form or another. After all, everyone needs something to wear to bed, and wearing one’s good clothing for sleeping has never been practical.

Pajamas as we know them today probably originated in Persia in the 1600’s. Prior to this, night clothes were mainly utilitarian and functional rather than fashionable. Persians were known for their fine taste in fabrics and garments. It’s little surprise that they were probably the first culture to apply fashion concepts to night wear.

They soon became popular, first in Britain and then in other developed countries like the United States. A typical man’s garment for sleeping consisted of loose fitting pants and a matching, loose-fitting top. This style is still highly popular today, both with men and women as well as children.

Over the years, the night-time garment branched out in many directions. Nightgowns became popular with women, and at times during history even men wore “night dresses.” Today, of course, consumers can find shorts, t-shirts and tank-top style PJ’s in addition to the traditional pants-and-shirt styles.

Footie pajamas were born in the late 1800’s. They were originally designed and marketed as sleepwear for babies. They were sometimes referred to as “blanket sleepers.” This is because they were intended to provide babies with the comfort and warmth of a blanket.

They were (and still are) much safer for babies than blankets for sleep time. It’s a well-known fact among parents that blankets and babies are a bad mix. Blankets can lead to strangulation and suffocation accidents and possibly result in infant death. At best, they rarely stay on baby for more than a few hours.

Footie pajamas solved the problem of keeping infants warm at night without posing the hazards of a blanket. They are still recommended today for infants and babies, not just for sleeping but for daywear as well.

Footie pajamas soon became so endeared that companies began to manufacture them for older children too. Eventually even adults could purchase them. Few things offer the level of both physical and emotional night time comfort than a pair of footie pajamas.

Infant footed PJ’s are hot sellers year-round.  However, Christmas is the biggest time of year for retailers of footie pajamas for kids and adults. Kids Christmas pajamas in footed varieties top wish lists when it comes to nightwear. In fact, kids Christmas pajamas of all different styles (footed or otherwise) are always popular for holiday giving to children.

PJ’s make some of the best Christmas gifts because they are highly practical. Everyone needs them, because everyone wears them. That doesn’t mean that kids Christmas pajamas have to be utilitarian and boring.

If you’re buying for the children in your life, you can choose bright colors and unique and exclusive designs. Choosing something fun makes the gift memorable and exciting in addition to being practical.

Purchasing footie pajamas can sometimes be tricky. Footie pajamas (sleepers) for babies need to fit snugly but not tightly in order to ensure baby’s safety. If you are unsure about sizing, purchase a garment that’s on the large side so that baby can grow into them.

Older children can safely wear footie pajamas that are a little bit on the big side, especially if they are gathered at the ankle. The legs should not be so long that the foot-portion drags on the floor, though, as this can cause accidents.

Does your baby get cold at night even during the summer months?  A lot of babies do because the air conditioner is on all night.  Adults and older kids are comfortable because they can use blankets but babies do not use blankets to keep them warm.   Instead, the parents have to dress their baby warm at night and what better way than with a pair of baby footie pajamas.

My Baby Pajamas carries a large selection of baby pajamas.   Footie pajamas are a great choice year around for babies.  We have many different brands and all footie pajamas are 100% cotton or bamboo pajamas.   Polyester and fleece footie pajamas are just too hot for the summer months.  Cotton and bamboo are great options for those summer months.

Does your baby not like footie pajamas?  There are other options available for baby pajamas.    Kicky Pants bamboo pajamas offer different styles for pajamas.  Kicky Pants Bamboo pajamas have a  short sleeve and long pants for the summer months and they offer a coverall pajama too.  The coverall pajama has a drop seat for easy diaper checks 🙂  Also, At Home pajamas are a great idea if your baby does not like footie pajamas.   At Home Pajamas have great two piece pajama sets with long sleeve and pants.  At Home pajamas are 100% cotton and are made in the USA!

It doesn’t matter if your baby likes footie pajamas or pajama sets with no feet, just be sure to dress your baby comfortable to ensure a good nights sleep.  When baby sleeps, mom and dad sleep too. 🙂
